Apple Global Revenue Down but iPhone Sales in India Grow 51 Percent

Apple Global Revenue Down but iPhone Sales in India Grow 51 Percent

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple sold 40.4 million iPhones last quarter
  • India was one of the bright spots, with 51 percent growth in iPhone sales
  • Sales in Greater China decreased 33.1 percent

Apple Inc sold more iPhones than Wall Street expected in the third quarter and estimated its revenue in the current period would top many analysts' targets, soothing fears that demand for the company's most important product had hit a wall.
Its shares rose 7 percent in after-hours trading.
The world's most valuable publicly traded company said it sold 40.4 million iPhones in the third quarter, down 15 percent from the year-ago quarter but slightly more than the average analyst forecast of 40.02 million, according to research firm FactSet StreetAccount.
iPhone sales dropped for the second straight quarter, pushing down Apple's total revenue 14.6 percent in the fiscal third quarter, ended June 25.
Demand for Apple's phones has waned in China, partly because of economic uncertainty there, and has also slowed in more mature markets as people tend to hold on to their phones for longer. The sales slump has stoked concerns about whether the tech leader can continue to deliver profits at the level Wall Street has come to expect.
"China was a major letdown," said Patrick Moorhead, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. "Samsung and Huawei are much more competitive now than a year ago and the Chinese economy is not doing well at all."
Moorhead said, however, that increased services revenue - which includes the App Store and iCloud - was a "very big bright spot for Apple."
Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri told Reuters in an interview that Apple's performance had topped his expectations in a quarter weighed down by tough foreign exchange rates and difficult comparisons with blockbuster iPhone 6 sales from the previous year.
Apple reduced channel inventory by $3.6 billion (roughly Rs. 24,204 crores), exceeding the $2 billion (roughly Rs. 13,447 crores) expected reduction, meaning sales were better than they appeared, Maestri said.
Customer demand "was better than what is implied in our results and better than we had anticipated," he said.
Sales of the iPhone fell last quarter for the first time since the gadget's release in 2007, dropping 16.3 percent. Maestri projected the gadget's average selling price to rise in the September quarter.
The iPhone drives about two-thirds of Apple's total sales. Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said during a call with analysts that the iPhone SE, a cheaper, four-inch (10 cm) phone released this year, was extending the range of people able to buy Apple phones.
"It's opening the door to customers we weren't reaching before," he said.
Apple's quarterly net profit fell 27 percent to $7.8 billion, while revenue of $42.36 billion beat analysts' average estimate of $42.09 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
China worries
Sales in Greater China, once touted as Apple's next growth engine, decreased 33.1 percent, compared with a 112.4 percent growth in the year-earlier quarter and a near 26 percent fall in the second quarter.
Maestri attributed the drop to channel inventory reduction in the nation, foreign exchange headwinds and a general downturn in the Chinese economy.
"It is very clear that there are some signs of economic slowdown in China, and we will have to work through them," he said.
Adding to Apple's woes in China, the company's stores for books and movies went dark earlier this year. Cook said Apple was working with regulators to restore the services but played down the financial impact of the outage, saying the stores yielded less than $1 million in revenue during the short time they were on the market.
"It's not a revenue-related issue," he said. "This is a service we want to provide our customers."
Apple's services business, which includes the App Store, Apple Pay, iCloud and other services, generated nearly $6 billion in revenue, up 18.9 percent from the previous year.
As iPhone sales level off, Apple is attempting to use such services to wring more revenue out of its existing base of users. The business emerged as Apple's second largest after the iPhone for the first time in the second quarter, eclipsing gadgets such as the iPad and the Mac.
That shift bodes well for Apple because gross margins on services are better than the average for the rest of the company, Maestri said.
"It's a great business because it is recurring in nature and more linked to our installed base," he said.
Maestri touted music as an example of one successful service, saying the growth of the Apple Musicstreaming service had more than made up for declines in digital downloads. To redouble its momentum in music, Apple purchased rights to the next season of popular series Carpool Karaoke, CBS Television Studios announced on Tuesday.
India was one of the rare bright spots, with 51 percent growth in iPhone sales, as Apple expands into emerging markets.
"India is now one of our fastest growing markets ... We're looking forward to opening more retail stores in India down the road, and we see huge potential," Cook told analysts.
Apple forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $45.5 billion to $47.5 billion, largely above Wall Street's average estimate of $45.71 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
The forecast, covering the quarter ending in September, will likely include at least the first weekend of sales of the iPhone 7 range, which Apple is expected to launch in September.
Up to Tuesday's close, Apple's shares had fallen about 8.2 percent since the start of the year. Shares rose 7 percent to $103.47 in after-hours trade following publication of results.

LG Display to Invest $1.75 Billion for Flexible Oled Screens

South Korea's LG Display Co Ltd said on Wednesday it will invest KRW 1.99 trillion ($1.75 billion or roughly Rs. 11,768 crores) to boost capacity for flexible organic light-emitting diode (Oled) displays, its latest attempt to meet growing demand from mobile device makers.
Oled is widely expected to replace liquid crystal displays (LCD) for smartphones as the standard technology in a few years, and flexible displays can be curved or folded.
LG, the world's largest maker of LCDs, has been focusing on making Oled screens for televisions and is trailing behind Samsung Display Co Ltd, an unlisted unit of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd that is the largest maker of Oleds for smartphones.
LG, in a regulatory filing, said it was building a new production line for small-to-medium sized flexible Oled screens in South Korea to address growing demand.
"A paradigm shift to Oled represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the display industry," LG Display Chief Executive Han Sang-beom said in a statement.

Carpool Karaoke Coming to Apple Music, Says CBS

"Carpool Karaoke," the viral late-night television skit in which celebrities from Adele to Michelle Obama sing along in a moving car, is expanding to Apple Music.
The tech giant and CBS television, which broadcasts the recurring segment as part of "The Late Late Show with James Corden," announced Tuesday that "Carpool Karaoke" will become a 16-episode series for Apple Music.
Corden will still air "Carpool Karaoke" on his show but a new version -- with a host to be determined - will appear on Apple Music, the company's streaming service launched last year.
Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, said the series was "a perfect fit" for the service by offering exclusive footage with artists and celebrities.
"The joy of 'Carpool' is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music," Ben Winston, executive producer of "The Late Late Show with James Corden," said in a statement.
Corden introduced the skit last year to his show and it has quickly taken on a life beyond late-night television, with more than 830 million total views on YouTube.
The most successful starred British ballad singer Adele, who showed a close-up and laid-back side to herself despite her phenomenal commercial success.
Adele's segment has been seen more than 119 million times on YouTube in six months, the most ever for a segment from the world of late-night television comedy.
A segment with First Lady Michelle Obama along with rapper Missy Elliott came out five days ago and has been seen more than 32 million times.
Other stars who have appeared on "Carpool Karaoke" include Justin Bieber, One Direction, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez and Stevie Wonder.
Apple, which revolutionized music consumption when it launched iTunes in 2001, last year made a concerted push into the booming area of streaming through Apple Music.
The company says the service has drawn 15 million subscribers but it still trails leader Spotify, which said it had 28 million paying subscribers at the end of 2015.
Apple and rap mogul Jay Z's upstart rival Tidal have tried to distinguish themselves with exclusive content as well as more integration with video than Spotify.
With its knack for technological innovation, Apple has long seemed invincible although its quarterly profits announced Tuesday slumped 27 percent from a year earlier.

ATHLETICS TIMETABLE FOR RIO 2016 OLYMPICS PUBLISHED

Following the recent news that the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will feature finals during the morning sessions of the athletics programme, the IAAF has today published the full timetable (updated on 16 January 2016).
“Staging finals in the morning was done at the request of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee and the Olympic Broadcasting Service, supported by the International Olympic Committee,” said IAAF competitions director Paul Hardy. “Having finals in the morning will also ensure that we receive maximum visibility for athletics at the Olympic Games across all time zones.”
There is at least one final in all of the morning sessions. All five road events – the two marathons and the three race walk events – will be held in the morning sessions, although both 20km race walks will be in the early afternoon. Other morning finals include the women’s 10,000m, men’s and women’s 3000m steeplechase, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s triple jump, men’s and women’s discus, and the women’s hammer.

Agenda 2020 – Olympic timetable
No credence whatsoever should be given to recent unfounded speculation regarding possible changes to athletics’ programme within the Olympic Games. While the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations were passed at last week's session, no details or specific proposals have yet been made by the IOC as to how they will be implemented.

happynes of life

how to people become  happy its a very  complicated point  of our  human cast
but we having try to find it very honest
Are you truly happy? Do you even know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? These are important questions for anyone who is seeking happiness to ask themselves. I live my life to maintain my own happiness while trying my best to not cause unhappiness to anyone else. If you want to be happy you need to understand that you can be happy and that you should be happy. Many people make the mistake of believing that they don’t deserve happiness and accept their unhappy state as their destiny. The truth of the matter is that happiness, like anything else in life, needs to be nurtured. The following are a few tips that I follow to create happiness in my life.
  • Understand what it is that will make you happy. Everyone has unique requirements for attaining happiness and what makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy. Revel in your individuality and do not worry about whether or not your desires are comparable to those of your peers.
  • Make a plan for attaining goals that you believe will make you happy. Your mood will very likely increase as your pursue your goal because you will feel better about yourself for going after something you value.
  • Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. Conversely, if you are around people who are happy their emotional state will be infectious.
  • When something goes wrong try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favor.
  • Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continued happiness.
  • It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance you will be subconsciously putting yourself in a better mood.
  • Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. While there are times that require you to be serious, when it is appropriate, find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you unhappy.
  • Maintaining your health is another way to achieve happiness. Being overweight or not eating nutritious foods can have a negative effect on your mood. Additionally, exercise has been known to release endorphins that give you a feeling of happiness.
  • Finally, it is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what steps you will take to achieve the happiness you desire.
Happiness is hard to define but most people are aware of whether they are happy or not. Many people believe that happiness is a form of luck and that some people are destined to be happy while others are destined to be unhappy. I try to incorporate the tips above into my life and have had great success in achieving happiness. The tips in this article are small but meaningful steps that you can take each day to lead you to true happiness

Apple's iOS 10 Goes to Eleven

Apple's iOS 10 Goes to Eleven

Apple on Monday kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference with the biggest-ever release of its iOS mobile operating system.
CEO Tim Cook called iOS 10, coming this fall, "gigantic" and "the mother of all releases."
Among the new offerings in the upcoming version of iOS are more features in Messaging, all new designs for News, Music and Photos, and increased opportunities for developers to integrate their apps with Siri, Maps and Messages.
"Long term, the most interesting thing is the fact that Apple opened up Siri and Messaging and Maps to developers to add to those services," said conference attendee Bob O'Donnell, chief analyst at Technalysis Research.
"It reflects the way the world is moving. It's moving away from standalone apps and into integration with services," he told TechNewsWorld. "Apple is acknowledging that by opening these things up for other developers to provide add-on functionality for these services."
