- A decent backdrop – If you’re filming a vlog or pieces to camera you might want to set up a decent backdrop. You can stick with plain white or jazz it up a bit with a collection of posters for example.

There is certainly not much money on YouTube. Everyone knows that. But since you want to make some educational videos, it won't fade away soon. And can become a good source of passive income. Provided your content being grade A quality.
Considering the average CPM of $1.5, you will get $7.5 for 5000 views. So if you make some 100 videos and get 5k views each, you will earn around $700 to $1000. It can me more if you partners with YouTube's MCN, sell stuff, ask for donation etc. But for an educational channel, these won't work.
However, if this is your first time (or you won't ask this qs in the first place), then getting 5k views on every video is not going to be easy. It takes time, knowledge and resources.
IMO for edu channels, Content is more important than subs. For instance Khan academy has millions of subs but only get a few thousands of views on most videos. Why? Diversity. So stick with your niche.

Now, I don't want to discourage you, but here is the truth.
If you are not fully into this YouTube thing, then it's hardly worth the effort i.e. more input less output.
Initially, you will have to put a lot of resources -- time for research, money for equipment etc and you won't get anything in return for couple of months. Unless you have some past experience on YouTube.
Even when you start getting regular checks from Google. It's still not worth the value to put into your channel. (Similar to startups)
Most YouTubers do it because they love what they do, money is second. And even then, they have to ask for patron and sponsorship, just to keep the show running.
Overall IMO, YouTube is not a good platform for full-time money making. But a great place to share knowledge and earn some passive income.

Once you associate your YouTube account with AdSense, you’ll have access to the Ad Performance report in YouTube Analytics. This report provides three key metrics you'll find useful in measuring how well your ads are accomplishing your monetization goals. You should note that when an ad successfully appears to a viewer on YouTube content, this is called an impression. There can be multiple ad impressions per playback, or just one.
- CPM (Cost-per-mille): the estimate for how much an advertiser paid per thousand impressions.
- Estimated Monetized Playbacks: The estimated number of times a viewer watches your video (i.e., a “view”) and is shown at least one ad impression, or when the viewer quits watching during the pre-roll ad without ever reaching your video (i.e., an “abandonment”).
- Gross revenue: The estimated total amount of money your video made from ads before it's split between you and your revenue-sharing partners (i.e., YouTube and other YouTube partners).
These three measurements can be used to measure and evaluate how different ad types perform over time relative to one another. They can also be used in conjunction with the Estimated Earnings report to calculate your earnings and measure your RPM (revenue-per-mille), or how much money you earn per thousand impressions on an ad. In my experience, CPMs vary over time. You can expect anywhere from $.50 to $2 per thousand views, I would say. However, it really depends on the kind of videos you make. I suggest you fiddle around on the Google Keyword Planner website. You'll notice that certain industries like law, finance, and real estate bid really high on your ads. If you make a video in this niche and utilize these keywords and they trigger ads, your CPM could be a lot higher, and you'll earn a lot more if people actually click these ads.
As others have said, I would not recommend partnering with a network for quite some time. Several huge YouTubers are just barely scraping by because these networks - who frankly tend to not help much because it makes more financial sense for them to help big names - take up to 30% or more of their monthly earnings. 5000 views per video is extremely difficult. I've had my channel for 6 years or so now and I only have a handful of videos that have even reached into the thousands. It has to be a pursuit of love and not money, otherwise you won't keep up with it and your audience will retreat.

According to popular resources, here’s how the CPM varies based on the type of ads:

It’s about your topics, advertisers create or targetting ads for your content or not. But 5k views are not a parameter to give you an idea. You can earn 0.5 or 1 dollar at the maximum if you are an average quality content maker. But i don’t know your audience maybe you are producing the most effective content in youtube so you can earn 5 dollars too for 5k viewers but this is looking impossible.
You can produce a lot of videos that viewed 5k but you can’t be in the trendings so the most pay of payments earned by trending videos or referral videos.
Focus to make videos that related with your other videos and try to create them longer than 10 mins. If you create videos less than 10 mins you can only show an advertisement to your viewers.

Look at someone who has 300,000 subscribers, and their videos usually garner anywhere from 500,000 to several million views.
This is the formula: $5.50 per 1000 views, in most cases, although higher if your subscribers are above 1 million. 1,000,000 views divided by 1000 multiplied by $5.50 = $5500. Then YouTube takes a 45% fee deduction of the profits, so after all is said and done, you receive $3025.
Suffice to say, someone who has at least 100,000 subscribers and makes videos regularly which generate a few hundred thousand views can make a modest living, especially if they do it in their spare time and invest their earnings so the IRS can't claim it.

I do own three youtube channels. Onw in which I used to upload few educational videos. For that I earned 10–15$ for every 100k views. That mean .1-.15$/1k views.

Why this differance?
It is because, If you start a channel educational based, your viewers will be aged above 16+. That mean they will install adblock extension. Due to which your will be very low. In case of gaming videos kids will be viewing your videos for that reason adrates will be more. Due to which you will earn more.
In other senario there are few tricks to increase your revenue. First you need to increase your RPM. For that you need to block few websites links in my ads. You will get to know which site to block once you start your channel.

Business strategists at WalMart feel that the supermarket chain can boost its earnings by simply having more people visit their stores. So, they decide on opening stores in areas where they can attract a larger chunk of crowd.
They feel that if more people would visit their store, they would naturally buy more.
At first glance, that sounds perfectly right.
But, what if WalMart fails to provide anything of value to their customers (demographic mismatch)? Or what if most of the customers turn out to be not really interested in buying anything and just pass by to another store (unrelated ads)?
In that case, WalMart can keep on increasing the customer influx and yet not have a noticeable impact on its profitability (low conversion ratio).
Now, replace your question with this: How much money has WalMart made if 5000 customers visited their store today?
It’s hard to come up with a number, unless you know:
- How many customers actually purchased something (Conversion Ratio)
- The average bill amount (CPC/CPI)
So, the equation would actually be A*B and not 5000*B.
That’s exactly the case with YouTube videos.
It’s hard to say how much money you can make with 5000 views, since it’s not proportional to the number of views, but depends on the clicks/views received on the advertisement shown before your video starts playing.
It also depends on the CPC/CPI of the advertisement. [Read: How to increase Adsense CPC on Youtube?]
CPI (Cost Per impression) and CPC (Cost Per Click) are indicators of how much an advertiser is willing to pay for every user interaction.
For example, an investment firm makes much more in profits by selling a home insurance to a customer than a company selling a smartphone. However, selling a smartphone is much easier compared to selling a home insurance.
That’s the reason CPC/CPI rates for home insurance related terms are higher than the ones for smartphones, and you could end up making much more money if you’re creating educational videos, like, ‘Picking the Best Insurance Plan for Your Home: 10 Things You Need to Know’ than ‘Review of the Latest Smartphone in Town’.
Just to make you understand why the number of views is not a good enough metric, consider this example.
Let’s say you make two videos like I suggested above. After 30 days, the first video ends up with just 5000 views, while the second one gets 10000 views.
Now, do you think you have made more money with the second video? Well, not necessarily.
Here’s what could happen.
First video earnings:
CPC: 1.47*
Conversion ratio: 10%* (optimistic assumption)
Views: 10000
Earnings: 10000*0.1*1.47 = $1470
Second video earnings:
CPC: 16.57*
Conversion ratio: 2%* (fair assumption)
Views: 5000
Earnings: 5000*0.02*16.57 = $1657
That being said, there are YouTubers that makes millions by making videos every year. YouTube gaming star PewDiePie made nearly $7m in 2014, while the famous ‘Gangnam Style’ video is estimated to have made Psy over $8 million.

The income is calculated based on RPM - revenue per thousand views. The range in the RPM is anywhere from $0.50 to. $5 per thousand views.
That means depending the types of ads served on your video and if they are relevant to make people watch/ click them then your video can make anywhere in between $2.50 to $25 for those 5,000 views.
And that's if those are 5,000 monetizable views, because they don't serve ads on every view. Therefore a video can have 5,000 views but only have 3,000 of those views monetized. Due to factors like people watching on smart TV's. They don't serve ads on TV apps but they still give you the view on the video if you get what I mean.

Although all my videos are completely unique, certain people might have similar videos thereby reducing the revenue in question derived from such a video. in the photos I am attaching you would notice that despite Windows 10 video having much lesser views in total compared to origin or steam or dota 2 videos, it has generated the MAXIMUM revenue out of all my videos as it is one of the most unique videos.
Also, only monetizing wouldn’t help. In order to make it work, I had to first reach 100,000 views after which I was given a tag called “Youtube Partner” which enabled me to start earning and stuff, which is done after signing an agreement. So frankly don’t expect money as such out of it. I make these videos in order to help out people facing similar problems.. Initially I made my first video so that a few of my friends who were facing the issue can fix it themselves than making me do the work :/
And I monetized it in order to see what exactly is the revenue generated from the same. I have no intention to actually withdraw the same.
