Upcoming AGM X2 Smartphone Heats up the Spec War With Snapdragon 835 and 8GB of RAM

Spec war seems to be far from over as a Chinese company by the name AGM is readying an IP68 rated smartphone with 8GB of RAM, yes you read it right. The smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 alongside the 8GB DRAM. AGM is not exactly a popular name when it comes to smartphones but the company has been involved in producing rugged handsets globally and its current lineup is made up of six IP68 rated models. At the MWC the company announced the new flagship that will be making use of the Snapdragon 835 and is expected to appease the mass market instead of a niche.

The current AGM flagship is X1 which is powered by Snapdragon 617 and is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the imaging front, the device came equipped with two 13-Megapixel sensors on both the sides and was backed by a generous 5,400 mAh battery. While the IP68 is rated to protect the device from dust and immersion in water (depth in excess of 1 meter) other specifications are mentioned by the manufacturer. The device also comes with a chassis that is designed to absorb shocks and survive falls.
The AGM X2 is touted to be the first IP68 rated smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 835 and will come with all the rugged features of its predecessors. The AGM X2 will also be equipped with 256GB of NAND and will feature two battery options, one with 5000mAh and the other with a whopping 10,000mAh. Moreover, on the connectivity front, the device will support Gigabit LTE.
AGM is expecting to rival the likes of the premium segment including Samsung Galaxy S-series and also the Apple iPhones. The company is yet to announce the pricing but one can take a guess that it will be below the $600 mark. The current AGM X1 is selling at $260 in China and in the US it costs $480. Again the AGM X2 might eventually turn out to be a great value for money proposition but the device is less likely to make a dent in the premium smartphone market. That being said the AGM X2 will surely up the ante when it comes to spec wars and who knows maybe the 8GB will be the new 6GB in the smartphones.
