This time around WhatsApp is expected to be testing a new revoke features for messages that would allow users to revoke the message within five minutes of sending the same. This is not the first time the feature has been spotted, earlier it was on WhatsApp for iOS and this time it’s for WhatsApp Web and Android as well.
The source, @WABetaInfo, has been pretty consistent when it comes to unearthing hidden WhatsApp features on the beta channel. He has explicitly mentioned that the new feature will allow web users to revoke the message within five minutes and the feature is expected to be launched across all platforms. However, its also mentioned that the feature is disabled right now and perhaps it will be made available once again on the Beta build.
WABetaInfo has also revealed that new font shortcuts will be added for the Android beta users. The font options are already available but the messaging app lacks a definitive shortcut to make it work, starting with Android version 2.17.148 of the app WhatsApp will be adding the new font shortcuts. That said the feature may be locked since I am running the same version of WhatsApp and the font options are nowhere to be seen. Once again it’s still unclear on when these features will be available publicly across all platforms.
That said, WhatsApp has been prompt when it comes to adding the features tested on the beta channel to the final build, it’s all a matter of time. WhatsApp has earlier introduced text formatting followed by an Instagram (or Snapchat!) inspired Status feature. I have often landed in a rather embarrassing situation after pinging in a wrong WhatsApp group/contact and it is in cases like this that the revoke feature will help, in fact, I also use a Gmail extension that allows me to revoke sent emails within 30 seconds.
