Scientists Set a New Record for Strongest Magnet

The 41.4-tesla magnet is roughly 20 times the strength of a magnet used in medical imaging machines.
Engineers at a lab in Florida have been working quietly for the last two and a half years on building one of the most powerful magnets in the world.
And on Monday, they succeeded. The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory — whose main location is housed at Florida State University — met its goal and reclaimed its status as home to the world's strongest resistive magnet.
Lab officials said they tested a 41.4-tesla magnet, which is roughly 20 times the strength of a magnet used in medical imaging machines and vastly stronger than the ones that get stuck to the door of a household refrigerator. The Earth's magnetic field, by comparison, is one twenty thousandth (.00005) of a tesla. A tesla is a measure of magnetic field strength.
The new magnet — which cost $3.5 million to build — beat the old mark for resistive magnets which was held by a 38.5 tesla magnet in China. The National MagLab had previously held the record for 19 years.
Greg Boebinger, the lab's director, said the loss of the record prompted officials to tell engineers, "Go ahead and make the thing bigger, go ahead and use more power, just go full volume to 11 and see what you can do."
Resistive magnets are a type of electromagnet used for research. They differ from pulsed magnets, which can reach a higher Tesla but can sustain that power for only a fraction of a second. Resistive magnets can run continuously. Superconducting magnets use less power but tap out at a lower field strength. Hybrid magnets combine superconducting and resistive elements and can reach even higher fields. The National MagLab has the world's strongest hybrid magnet which reaches 45 tesla.
Researchers say they can use these powerful magnets to answer many questions, such as what kind of materials will work best in quantum computers, how does a potential Alzheimer's drug change the brain and what molecules make up a sample of crude oil - and will it be worth drilling for?
The power of the new record-setting magnet, which is confined to a single room inside the lab, doesn't create the type of effects witnessed in the X-Men film series by Magneto. But it's powerful enough that lab officials use non-magnetic tools.
"Local people think we change the weather," said Boebinger, who says he gets asked about Magneto all the time. "We don't even change the magnetic field outside our building."
Instead the magnetic field created by the new powerful magnet will be used by researchers and scientists from across the world as a way to look at and study various types of materials. It's this research that could potentially lead to breakthroughs in medicine, engineering and energy.

This story has been updated to make it clear that the magnet at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory is home to the strongest resistive magnet.

Samsung Exec Sentenced to Five Years in Prison For Bribing Scandal

Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong bribed South Korea's president, ultimately leading to her ouster....

A South Korean court sentenced the billionaire chief of Samsung to five years in prison for crimes that helped topple the country's president, a stunning downfall that could freeze up decision making at a global electronics powerhouse long run like a monarchy.
The Seoul Central District Court said Friday that Lee Jae-yong, 49, was guilty of offering bribes to Park Geun-hye when she was South Korea's president, and to Park's close friend, to get government support for efforts to cement his control over the Samsung empire. The revelations that led to Lee's arrest in February fed public outrage which contributed to Park's removal.
A panel of three judges also found Lee guilty of embezzling Samsung funds, hiding assets overseas, concealing profit from criminal acts and perjury. Prosecutors had sought a 12-year prison term.
The court said Lee and Samsung executives who advised him caused "a big negative effect" to South Korean society and its economy.
"The essence of the case is unethical collusion between political power and capital," the court said in a statement. It led the public to fundamentally question the public nature of the president's work and to have "mistrust in the morality of the Samsung group," it said.
The families who control South Korea's big conglomerates, known as chaebol, were lionized a generation ago for helping to turn South Korea into a manufacturing powerhouse put public tolerance for double standards that put them above the law has been rapidly diminishing.
Analysts said the verdict will not immediately have an impact on Samsung's business operations, which are overseen by three chief executives. The company has successfully weathered past crises that include two recalls of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones prone to catch fire and Lee's arrest. It is set to report its highest-ever earnings this year.
But long-term business decisions, such as finding future growth areas and identifying companies for acquisitions, may have to be put on hold.
"South Korea's chaebol system is similar to monarchy," said Park Sang-in, a professor at Seoul National University. "In the monarchy system, you need a king."
There is also potential for a destabilizing family feud over inheritance when the elder Lee dies.
"Samsung was in the middle of change and that has stopped," said Park Ju-gun, chief executive at CEO Score, a private corporate watchdog. "That is a big risk."
Business lobby groups, while refraining from openly criticizing the verdict, expressed concerns that Lee's absence from the helm of Samsung would take a toll on the South Korean economy. Samsung accounts for about one fifth of the nation's exports.
"Samsung Electronics represents South Korea as a global company so we are deeply worried about the fallout from his long absence," said a Korea Employers Federation spokesman. "It will be a disaster not just to an individual company but to the nation's economy."
The verdict, however, could be good news for shareholders at South Korean companies who have complained about weak corporate governance that let founding families wield outsized influence and enjoy emperor-like authority even with minority ownership.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in's office, in a rare commentary on a court ruling, welcomed the ruling as a step toward rooting out corruption.
"We hope that it would pave the way to end persistent government-business collusion, which has hampered society from moving forward," its spokesman Yoon Young Chan said.
Lee was accused of offering $38 million in bribes to four entities controlled by Choi Soon-sil, a long-time friend of Park, in exchange for government help with a merger that strengthened Lee's control over Samsung after his father suffered a heart attack in 2014.
Samsung has not denied transferring corporate funds. But Lee, vice chairman at Samsung Electronics and the Samsung founder's grandson, claimed innocence during the court hearing. He said he was unaware of the foundations or the donations, which were overseen by other executives.
The closely-watched verdict is the latest convulsion in a political scandal that prompted millions of South Koreans to protest last fall, culminating in the ouster and arrest of Park as well as the arrests of Choi and Lee. Park, who was embroiled in a tumultuous series of scandals, was removed from office in March. She and Choi are both currently on trial.
Judges pointed to an unusual arrangement in which Samsung bankrolled equestrian training for Choi's daughter as proof of Lee's knowledge of what was transpiring.
They said Lee was aware that Park wanted Samsung to sponsor the equestrian training.
Samsung secretively provided a huge amount of money to Choi's Germany-based company that paid for the training and the exorbitantly priced foreign horses worth 3.6 billion won ($3.2 million) were part of the bribes, the verdict said. The attempts to hide Samsung's involvement also constituted crimes, it said.
In total, Samsung paid $7.9 million in bribes to the German company and a winter sports center, the judges said.
The verdict also dealt a blow to Samsung's publicly stated position that recent business dealings or restructuring efforts have nothing to do with the succession of corporate leadership to Lee from his father. Instead, Samsung has insisted that a merger of two Samsung companies at the center of the scandal was about creating business benefits. Judges rejected Samsung's argument.
"He was set to benefit most from the succession work, which was part of the favors sought from the president," Kim Jin-dong, the head judge, said.
Other former Samsung executives charged with Lee were also found guilty.
Choi Gee-sung, a mentor of Lee, and Chang Choong-ki were sentenced to four years in prison. Two other former executives received suspended prison terms.

The ruling in Lee's case can be appealed twice. Samsung will appeal the ruling immediately, Song Woo-cheol, a Samsung attorney, told reporters.

Nokia 6 review: Mid-range segment

NOKIA 6

IN  India many mobile brand are runing  wher some are giving  many offer but some brand are very trusted due to there performance .
When it comes to technology and smartphones, Nokia is still one of the most trusted brands though it has been going to give better performance  few years. But with its comeback, aided by Finnish startup HMD Global, this brand is showing us what brand loyalty can do. The company’s new mid-budget phone is the Nokia 6, aimed at the masses.
Nokia 6 price in India: Rs 14,999
Nokia 6 specifications: Full-metal body | 5.5-inch full-HD display | Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 with 3GB RAM | 32GB storage (expandable up to 128GB) | 16 MP phase detection autofocus camera + 8 MP front camera | Dual speakers and dedicated amplifier, Dolby Atmos | Android Nougat | Dual SIM 4G VoLTE | 3000 mAh battery
Nokia 6 design and display review
Nokia has always been known for good performance  one that is practical, staong and stylish, while not tending to be outlandish. The Nokia 6 is no exception, but HMD Global has focussed on the style part too and this could well be one of the most stylish phones in this price range. And the lack of plastic — this phone is all-metal and in a very flagship kind of way — also makes it stand out from the rest of the phones. Plus the metal chassis frame gives this phone a feeling of durability and dependability hard to find in a phone that costs Rs 14,990.
here are some brands around the world that come with a certain amount of consumer trust attached to it. And this is not something gained by marketing gimmicks or expensive brand ambassadors, but by the experience of customers and that too over many years.
When it comes to technology and smartphones, Nokia is still one of the most trusted brands though it has been going through a rollercoaster ride over the past few years. But with its comeback, aided by Finnish startup HMD Global, this brand is showing us what brand loyalty can do. The company’s new mid-budget phone is the Nokia 6, aimed at the masses.
Nokia 6 UI and software review
The Nokia 6 UI is almost stock Android, though it is not plain vanilla. There are some tweaks, like the app dock at the bottom with a pull up app tray. The native app icons stand out for their blue colour code and round shape. Overall, this makes the phone easy to get used to, with very little or no learning involved. That said, I would have loved for Nokia to have some sort of an app play, offering something that differentiates its phone from rivals.
Nokia camera review
The Nokia 6 is not a phone that is being sold for its camera, unlike the flagship Nokia 8. But the camera of this mid-range phone is no pushover either. It can do a good job of most of the situations and performs reasonably well in low light too. The camera app is basic and offers just Panorama and Beautify modes in addition to regular camera.
but in the end the results were quite impressive though without any flourish or extravagance when it comes to colours. The Nokia 6 has a camera that will not leave you wanting at any point of time, with the ability to throw up some really good results if the conditions are suitable.
Nokia 6 battery review
The Nokia 6 has a 3000 mAh battery that can last close to 10 hours with regular use over 4G VoLTE. You can get a couple of hours more by keeping the brightness lower.
Nokia 6 verdict
The Nokia 6 is trademark Nokia. This is a phone which does not have one strong USP, but this is a phone you will be able to trust and depend upon. This is a phone you know will work every time you turn to it and does not cost a bomb. The mid-range segment has a serious new challenger and I won’t be surprised if this phone ends up being a big success. This is the new no-nonsense phone. Nokia 6 reiterates that a good phone just needs to get the basics right and does not need gimmicks to gain attention.

iPhone 8 will launch in just a few weeks

APPLE fans are very happy and   excited  after a report this morning  the launch of the iPhone 8 could be just a few weeks away.
The Californian-based company typically holds its flagship product launch in September each year but news of when the highly 10th anniversary iPhone will be introduced to the world remains ,
you have to wait for these  tech. which are show in feature by many website .
A report by French-language site Mac4Ever, which was reported on by another dedicated Apple publication 9to5Mac, claims the event will take place on September 12, where Apple will announce three new iPhones: the OLED iPhone 8 as well as two iPhone 7s editions.
How do they claim to know this?
Mac4Ever cites unnamed carrier sources, reporting that mobile service providers have been told when to expect the announcement so they can prepare for the ensuing marketing and stock logistics.
According to 9to5Mac, the site has a “reasonable record when it comes to Apple rumours” but said it was unable to confirm the September 12 date and was treating the news “with some scepticism”.
At this stage, you can add it to the growing list of unsubstantiated iPhone rumours to be taken with a grain of salt but the timing of an apparent September 12 launch would very much be keeping in step with previous years.
Apple sent out press invites for its major event on August 29 (US time) last year, and August 27 in 2015 for events on September 7 and September 9 respectively.
Apple is really, really serious about keeping its secrets and the company goes to great lengths to enforce a culture of secrecy around new product launches. The tech giant famously doesn’t comment on stories like this but with September fast approaching
it won’t be long until we know for sure if the report turns out to be accurate.
Until then if you want to actually sink your teeth into something tangible, Apple’s main smartphone competitor Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Note 8 handset in New York overnight.
Despite the global recall of its previous plus size device, the company is sticking with the Note brand for its latest flagship smartphone.
The Note 8 has the largest screen yet from Samsung but comes with the company’s highest ever price tag for a phone. It also packs world-first camera technology and has a smaller power source to avoid any repeat of the battery fires that extinguished its predecessor.

Google will ask when you are depressed

The New York Post reports google get information from when you are searching  about depress.they will ask about  your self why you are depress.
Users will then be directed to a clinically validated questionnaire, called a PHQ-9, to measure their level of depression, Google explained on its blog. The questionnaire is not meant to replace a mental health professional.
The prompts will only appear on the US version of Google and its not clear if and when they will appear on Google Australia.
Google — which partnered with the US National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to create the self-evaluation — hopes the confidential survey will spur more people to broach the subject with their doctor.
One in five Americans experience depression but less than half seek help, according to NAMI. Google seeks to change that by spreading awareness in order to help sufferers get a diagnosis and timely care.
“Statistics show that those who have symptoms of depression experience an average of a 6-8 year delay in getting treatment after the onset of symptoms,” Google wrote in the blog posting.
“We believe that awareness of depression can help empower and educate you, enabling quicker access to treatment,” it continues.
Jill Rubin, a licensed clinical social worker in Manhattan, says she’s had several patients come into her office after identifying with symptoms of depression they found online.
“I think the assessment form can certainly be quite helpful as a reference from which to explore,” she said. “It’s a guideline which can certainly help a patient understand and clarify as well as the mental health provider.”

This App Allows Anyone to Create Custom Android Ransomware

This App Allows Anyone to Create Custom Android Ransomware

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A free TDK app lets anyone create custom ransomware
  • The ransomware can be distributed to infect multiple Android devices
  • The app can be used even by those with no coding knowledge
If it wasn't easy already for cybercriminals to hack into Android phones, there is now an app that basically lets anyone, even those with absolutely no knowledge of coding, to become a hacker and develop their own custom Android ransomware. All you need is an Android phone to get started.

A free Trojan Development Kit (TDK) app can be downloaded from hacking forums with a simple interface that can get anyone to quickly create their own ransomware, Symantec researchers find. "The entire process of creating a ready-to-use piece of malware is done on a smartphone without any requirement to write a single line of code," Dinesh Venkatesan, Principal Threat Analysis Engineer at Symantec says, cited by a ZDNet report.

The app requires you to follow some simple instructions and fill out forms with customisable options to create your own malware. For example, you can choose the option to have the malware display a message on the infected device's lock screen, the key to unlock the device, and the type of animations that can be displayed on the screen.
After filling out the form to your preference, the user can hit the 'create' button and will need to make a one-time payment to the app developer, after which the user can distribute the ransomware to as many Android device as he wishes. The ransomware created through the Trojan Development Kit locks the device and displays a message to the victim demanding a ransom.

Such tools not only make it easy for entry-level hackers to hack into Android devices but also gives seasoned hackers an easier way to get the job done without spending a lot of time. "Even hardened malware authors could find these easy-to-use kits an efficient alternative to putting the work in themselves. We expect to see an increase in mobile ransomware variants as these development kits become more widespread," said Venkatesan.

There have been a number of Android malware-related reports recently such as SonicSpy, Lipizzan, LeakerLocker, to name a few, and this latest piece of news makes it even more concerning regarding the safety of Android. Researchers say that users should refrain from downloading apps from unreliable sources, keep backups of important data, and to keep the system software up-to-date.

Reliance Jio temporarily stops pre-booking of JioPhone

Due to an overwhelming response, Reliance Jiohas blocked the booking for its ultra-budget JioPhone. The Indian telecom giant is sending a message to all its Jio customers indirectly saying that the bookings are closed. It also says that 'millions' have already booked the JioPhone.

"Thank You India! Millions have pre-booked the JioPhone. We'll inform you when pre-booking resumes," says the text message with a link from where interested users can register the device.

It is worth adding that the JioPhone went for pre-bookings recently. Users had the option to pre-booked the feature phone at Reliance Digital Stores as well as at other company-authorised stores. Reliance, at the time of introducing the device, also said that users could book the handset using the MyJio app. However, several of them were not able to find the option inside the app yesterday (August 25).
It was also mentioned that the deliveries for the phone will start in first week of September. The company has announced that the device will be available at first-come-first-served basis. For those who have successfully booked the JioPhone, they can check the status of their booking by dialling 18008908900. It is also possible to check the status in the MyJio app under Manage Voucher section, tweeted the official JioCare handle.

The JioPhone is effectively priced at Rs 0, however, customers need to pay Rs 1500 as security deposit for the phone. This security deposit is refundable. However, users will get the same after a minimum period of three years. Of the total amount, Rs 500 needs to be paid at the time of the booking, while remaining Rs 1000 needs to be paid at the time of the delivery of the phone.

The JioPhone runs on KAI OS, a reminiscent of the Firefox OS and sports a 2.4-inch QVGA (320x240 pixels) display. The single-SIM (Nano SIM) feature phone comes in Black colour. Powering the handset is a dual core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 processor clocked at 1.2GHz.The processor is complemented
The JioPhone sports 2MP rear camera and a front-facing 0.3MP camera. As for the storage, the device includes 4GB inbuilt space, which can be expanded using a microSD card (up to 128GB). Backing the feature phone is a 2000mAh Li-Po battery that is claimed to deliver up to 12 hours of talk time and half a month of standby time on a single charge.

Besides featuring FM Radio, the JioPhone also supports 4G LTE connectivity. Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS and USB 2.0 are also included in the handset. Reliance says its JioPhone supports 22 Indian languages

Jio's another wave of disruption sends rivals scurrying for safety

NEW DELHI: The recent start of pre-booking for Reliance Jio's much-touted 4G feature phone—JioPhone—is another disruptive ploy of Mukesh Ambani-owned company. Reliance Jio's stormy entry into $26 billion Indian telecom market riding on big freebies last year changed rules of the game. With its second wave of disruption, it might end up leading the game.

After a speedy start, Jio has seen a slowdown in the pace of its customer acquisition, mainly due to the limited number of affordable 4G handsets in the market. But JioPhone can help the new operator target millions of 2G feature phone users who have been wary of shifting to smartphones due to the affordability factor and lack of use case.

JioPhone, a 4G feature phone which will be available at an effective cost of Rs 0, can rattle the existing players who can lose a big chunk of their low-end voice customers. It will hit low-end handset makers as well.

Currently, over 60 per cent of India's roughly 750 million mobile users use phones that allow only calls and basic texts, making so-called feature phones the country's single largest segment, according to a Reuters report. The JioPhone will create a new phone segment aimed at millions of low-paid Indians, currently caught between basic, calls-and-text devices and fancier smartphones.

The incumbents are already firming up their strategies to take on the JioPhone disruption.

India's biggest mobile phone company Bharti Airtel is in advanced talks with handset makers to introduce a 4G smartphone in the lead up to Diwali for about Rs 2,500, bundling large amounts of data and voice minutes with the device to take the battle to Reliance Jio for retaining a share of the mass market.

Vodafone India has bundled voice plans and cashback with 2G feature phones from China's itel in a first-of-its-kind deal for India's No. 2 telco. It is striving to ringfence its voice-only user base from migrating to the Reliance Jio Infocomm-backed 4G feature phone, pre-bookings for which started on Thursday.

Vodafone will offer talk time worth Rs 50 free for 18 months for consumers who buy one of 17 models priced between Rs 800 and Rs 1,600, being offered by the No 2 feature phone brand in the country, with a bid to protect its voice business, which still contributes around 80% of revenue, according to analysts.

Apart from the strategy of rivals, JioPhone faces many challenges on its way to conquer the market.

A JP Morgan report says JioPhone might not withstand consumer expectations and wouldn't halt potential feature phone users' plans to own a smartphone during a three-year lock-in period. Smartphone penetration for Airtel and Idea has crossed 40% of their subscriber base even as a significant part of them are not broadband (3G/4G) users yet. The low-end of this smartphone user base operates at clear sub-Rs 200 ARPU (average revenue per user) and consumers would likely to consider the pros and cons of downtrading to JioPhone from a smartphone.

Another big challenge for JioPhone is that it is without WhatsApp, a big attraction for users who want to shift to smartphones. Ambani is reportedly in talks with the engineers of WhatsApp for a light-mode version of the popular messaging app for JioPhone. However, there are reports that JioPhone is not likely to get the messaging app anytime soon.

With more than 200 million active daily users in India and more than a billion worldwide, WhatsApp's absence could make JioPhone less attractive. Idea and Intex are already working on affordable Android-based smart feature phones that can support Facebook and WhatsApp.

Fading winter on Mars shows dry ice effect in the form of 'beautiful patterns' – PIC

New Delhi: The near future holds the possibility of a manned probe to Mars and scientists who are preparing for human domination on the Red Planet owe a lot to the numerous already-operational probes that are scaling the Martian surface.
NASA's and JPL's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has been one of those promising rovers that has provided scientists with a huge amount of data to aid them in preparing for one of the biggest, most awaited missions of all time.

FADING AT MARS AT WINTER

Armed with the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera, the MRO has once again delivered a masterpiece – one that shows us how dry ice has created a beautiful picture on the dunes of the Red Planet.

Captured on May 21, 2017, at 13:21 local Mars time during spring in Mars' Northern hemisphere, the image shows how over the winter, snow and ice have inexorably covered the dunes.
Unlike on Earth, this snow and ice is carbon dioxide, better known to us as dry ice.
As per NASA, when the sun starts shining on it in the spring, the ice on the smooth surface of the dune cracks and escaping gas carries dark sand out from the dune below, often creating beautiful patterns. On the rough surface between the dunes, frost is trapped behind small sheltered ridges.
