Reliance Jio temporarily stops pre-booking of JioPhone

Due to an overwhelming response, Reliance Jiohas blocked the booking for its ultra-budget JioPhone. The Indian telecom giant is sending a message to all its Jio customers indirectly saying that the bookings are closed. It also says that 'millions' have already booked the JioPhone.

"Thank You India! Millions have pre-booked the JioPhone. We'll inform you when pre-booking resumes," says the text message with a link from where interested users can register the device.

It is worth adding that the JioPhone went for pre-bookings recently. Users had the option to pre-booked the feature phone at Reliance Digital Stores as well as at other company-authorised stores. Reliance, at the time of introducing the device, also said that users could book the handset using the MyJio app. However, several of them were not able to find the option inside the app yesterday (August 25).
It was also mentioned that the deliveries for the phone will start in first week of September. The company has announced that the device will be available at first-come-first-served basis. For those who have successfully booked the JioPhone, they can check the status of their booking by dialling 18008908900. It is also possible to check the status in the MyJio app under Manage Voucher section, tweeted the official JioCare handle.

The JioPhone is effectively priced at Rs 0, however, customers need to pay Rs 1500 as security deposit for the phone. This security deposit is refundable. However, users will get the same after a minimum period of three years. Of the total amount, Rs 500 needs to be paid at the time of the booking, while remaining Rs 1000 needs to be paid at the time of the delivery of the phone.

The JioPhone runs on KAI OS, a reminiscent of the Firefox OS and sports a 2.4-inch QVGA (320x240 pixels) display. The single-SIM (Nano SIM) feature phone comes in Black colour. Powering the handset is a dual core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 processor clocked at 1.2GHz.The processor is complemented
The JioPhone sports 2MP rear camera and a front-facing 0.3MP camera. As for the storage, the device includes 4GB inbuilt space, which can be expanded using a microSD card (up to 128GB). Backing the feature phone is a 2000mAh Li-Po battery that is claimed to deliver up to 12 hours of talk time and half a month of standby time on a single charge.

Besides featuring FM Radio, the JioPhone also supports 4G LTE connectivity. Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS and USB 2.0 are also included in the handset. Reliance says its JioPhone supports 22 Indian languages
