How Does a Blog Work — From ‘Nuts and Bolts’ To ‘Ins-and-Outs’

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

What exactly is a blog?

Long before internet came into picture, people used to record their thoughts and memories using diaries. These diary owners used to keep their personal diaries with themselves where they penned the important events of their life and their opinions regarding different subjects. Just as the photo albums acted as visual record for the memories, these diaries served as a written record of the memories. Like every page of the album brought to life a moment captured in lens, every page of the diary gives life to the event recorded in the words during later dates. Readers use these diaries to reminisce about those words.
But as internet has expanded its reach and made a stronghold in common person’s life, the trend of keeping a diary faded into oblivion. Now the laptops and smart phones have replaced the pens and papers of the past, and the need to maintain the personal diary is now fulfilled on internet via blogs. These online personal diaries might just look like website, but they actually are called blogs. Those who maintain blogs are called blogger.

Bloggers update their blog with new entries every other day, and these entries are called blog posts. Just like the webpages of website, the blog posts keep on adding to the page length of the blog.
But there is a huge difference between blog and website. While planning for a website, the number of pages is fixed before its launch, but a blog can have any number of blog posts. Blog is meant to save and express the personal opinion online and hence setting up of a blog does not call for huge planning. There is no fixed number of blog posts a blogger is limited to. As the life and experience of blogger moves on, so does the number of blog posts on the blog.

Why do people blog?Human beings are blessed with a creative instinct which inspires them to do something creative. Just like painting and poetry serves as an outlet for these creative instincts, diary writing is another way to feed the creativity inside. This is the easiest, simplest, and cheapest way to fulfill these instincts. And probably that is the reason why the blogs have made their place in the online life of the people. These do not need for much hard work or any kind of investment, nor do they call for much investment in terms of time. Moreover, since reaching the audience by blog posts is easier, even the news agencies first publish their news as a blog post.
Blogging platform also provide an important platform for the experts in certain fields. The blog is a perfect platform to record and share their learnings as the blog posts. This serve as a perfect way to keep track of the progress made in a process. Moreover, many other people can also learn from the lessons and results recorded in a blog.

You should have a blog or not?
Blogger and WordPress are the most famous blogging platforms where you can create your blog in free. This means that you do not need to pay anything for expressing yourself in the personal blog, but one should keep in mind that one doesn’t have full control on what is published on the blog in these cases. Before signing on these platforms, one signs the terms and conditions which should be adhered to while posting. The blogpost should follow the rules and regulations of these platforms, in the absence of which these platforms have full right to deactivate your blog or delete the blogpost.
But in case you want more control over your posts, you can go ahead with a self-hosted blog which will give the full control as both the server and the domain name will be purchased by you.  But this calls for the investment in many areas like domain name, server space, design, back up, security etc. The question that user should ask themselves is whether they are ready to invest in the blogs for these reasons or not.

Most of the times, blogs are created spontaneously by the people who love to write and share, without a huge planning. So if you don’t like to write or are someone who has never written, then blog is not for you. Creating a blog just to follow your friends or to join in the latest trend of appearing on web is not the right idea for creating the blog. Blog is for those who enjoy writing– be it business, personal or some opinions.

Blogs can be used for both personal or professional writing. There are people who have passion for writing, who are hardworking and also have good writing skills. This is a good opportunity for them to earn money, but for that it is important to publish the blog posts or content which are quite useful for common people. The blog should hold such inspiration and power of attraction that the readers and internet users are compelled to read your blog again and again.

Apart from this, you will also need some basic technical know-how to improve the blog and make it better from time to time. It is important to give it a new look as per the trending fashion, else the blog might look outdated.
Business owners can also create the blog. Even if they have a business website which hosts information about your product and services, a business blog can add to the website as it serves as a platform to bring the voice to the customers. One can share the opinion with the customers or use the platform to announce the upcoming changes in the business world, the future expansion plans, the new products and services being launched etc. Blog can also be used as a platform for feedback from the customer to improve your product and services. This in no way means that you yourself need to work on the blog. You can delegate this responsibility by hiring a professional blogger and your marketing executive head.

About Blogging Platform
A blogging platform comes with a lot of features and services. Just like an email platform where one can sort, create emails, save draft or send the messages directly, the blogging platforms are also equipped with various features to help in maintaining the personal blog. You can write, publish, store the post as a draft, or schedule it for future. The platform also allows embedding of video and slides as per the requirement of the blogger. There is also an option of sorting the posts in different categories.

How Blog Works.
Blogging Platform has an owner or an administrator and this administrator has the right to decide who can use this blogging platform. Mostly in case of the personal blogs, only one person runs the show and acts as an author, editor and administrator. But if the blog is being used for journalism, then the job of administrator is to keep the platform safe and prevent misuse of the blog. One news publishing blog needs staff which includes journalists, writers, editor, proofreaders and other team to maintain that blog. That is why blogging platforms have an option of creating and maintaining many authors’ profiles.

A blog is attached to a database. Whatever images, videos are used or the profile of these different users– all are saved in this database. The blogging platform extracts all the information from the database for any posts. Without database, the blogposts are like blank pages. There is also a comment system in the blogposts. Every post is followed by the comment section where readers can express their comments and opinions. Blog writers can also reply to these comments initiating the communication between the reader and the writer. This communication helps in creating one to one relationship with the readers and getting the feedback from the readers as well.
